Originally launched in 2002, Warcraft 3: Reforged is a re-release of the classic RTS game that is the prequel to World of Warcraft. All of the hosts have fond memories of the original and were excited to try this high definition version of the game.
Well, as per usual, Blizzard did not fail us. They left all of the meat and potatoes of the game play we remembered, but elevated it with better graphics. The cinematics looked amazing, the unit detail when zooming in was stellar, and overall felt more modern.
Blizzard had some hiccups with the launch and were unable to provide online PVP at launch which caused some complaints in general chat. This was not a concern to us as we decided to play a custom game against computer opponents, and were stomped viciously which would have likely been the outcome against a live challenger.
All in all, this game at a $40 CDN retail price for the original game plus the Frozen Throne expansion is worth it for those who have never played it before and would like to learn more Warcraft Lore. For those of us who have played it through already, I feel it is worth the price to play through the story again then take our challenge online against human foes and ‘Git Gud’ enough to hopefully put up a fight and have some fun along the way.
