The author of perhaps the greatest fantasy adventure ever, J.R.R. Tolkien still finds himself the topic of conversation over 80 years since his epic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, was completed. With the recent live-action adaptions of the movies to film by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit Trilogy), the return of Tolkien is only at the beginning. A new TV series is in development over at Amazon Prime and a film bearing his very name is also in the works.
The latest trailer for Tolkien – a movie showcasing the early years and beginnings of what became the Lord of the Rings – was released recently to the community site TheOneRing.net by Fox Searchlight, the company producing the film. It’s clear that their admiration for the fandom is high.
With Nicholas Hault taking the role of the famed author, we see him during his time at Exeter and while he served during the First World War as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. A powerful trailer, the camera pans already bring back memories of the picturesque mountains as the Fellowship made their way over them. We’re likely to see more of this, especially when the film focuses on the First World War and the different locations Tolkien found himself in at the time.
The movie will not only tell about the times at Exeter for school and war as a commander, but also a story of love, much like the trilogy itself. The story of his marriage to Edith Bratt, portrayed by Lily Collins, will tell of their times – both good and bad – throughout his life and career. The two were deeply in love and passed away only 21 months apart from one another. With how the other aspects of his life influenced the film, we’re bound to truly grasp how Edith impacted the series that we all cherish and love so dearly. After the tale of Aragorn and Arwen, we might be needing some tissues for this one.
