The Fans Have Finally Been Heard!
My fellow sprites! It has FINALLY happened. I am just so excited to tell you this that I’m going to cut right tot the chase: Studio Ghibli is officially being added to the Netflix family, starting February 1, 2020. I highly recommend that, if you don’t have Netflix, get it for that day (or borrow it from someone else, because this is going to be huge!).
Before I let you know about the list of movies being released and when, I wanted to talk about my own personal favourites. As some back story, I grew up in a very controlling household, so stories in movies and books were a huge escape for me. The two biggest studio Ghibli movies that really touched me both as a child and now as an adult are Ponyo and Spirited Away. These two movies have always been my absolute favourites. Ponyo offers a story revolving around childhood innocence, and a child learning to make her own personal decisions (as well as the consequences of those choices), while Spirited Away showed that, no matter what happens, being good, listening and pursuing your goals will really help you achieve anything you set your mind to. The little girl wanted to rescue her parents from being kept as pigs, and did anything and everything she could to help them. The loyalty of family is huge, something that still sticks with me to this day.
